From Hagg Lane crossroads, walk along the foothpath at the side of Hagg Lane Ponds, continue where the footpath ends, along the grass verge heading North along Hagg Lane for approximately 200mts in total.
On the left hand side of the road a foot bridge crosses the Drainage Board dyke and you enter over a stile into a farmers field. The footpath is well maintained across the field to the hedge where a gap crosses the old dyke and in to Church Field.
Turn left for approximately 10mts and pick up Hearthstones Lane for a further 300mts, towards the old brickyard.
Clay land drainage pipes or tiles were made at the brickyard for many years with the clay extracted from the clay pits which have now naturally filled with water to form large deep ponds.
At the end of Hearthstones Lane are gates and steps to form a stile into the open yard in front of the plant hire yard.
At the end of the yard you enter Northfield Lane, turn right to walk into Haw Lane for around an 800mt walk to the railway, or turn left and head towards the A63 and back to the village at Hearthstones filling station.
You can enter the village for the Village Walk or the ‘Old Ways’ lane to the rear of main street and the church or continue to ‘Landing Lane’.
Turning left from Northfield Lane and along the footpath at the side of the A63 heading east takes you back to Hagg Lane crossroads and Hagg Lane ponds.
Total walking time around 40 minutes. |

From the North East end of the boardwalk cross the footbridge and on to the public footpath, turn immediately left after bramble patch and proceed along the edge of the field travelling in an easterly direction.
On your left hand side as you walk along the mature oak trees tower above you, the old hedge row is a mixture of hawthorn, wild rose, brambles, gorse, sloe and many other native species.
After the first field cross through the hedge following the footpath markers into the “Poorman’s Fields” these fields were gifted to Hemingbrough, Cliffe ,Barlby and Osbodby Parish Councils to provide an income, by renting out for farming, for the poor folk of the parishes.
Hemingbrough Parish Councils share of the income is distributed, along with top up money, to the parishioners in Hemingbrough over the age of 70 years at Christmas time.
At the eastern end of the Poormans Fields, follow the foothpath markers back into Inner Moor lane. TAKE CARE IN INNER MOOR LANE, AS IT IS A HIGHWAY MAINTAINABLE AT PUBLIC EXPENSE AND CAN CARRY ROAD VEHICLES.
The walk to this point takes approximately 10 minutes.
Turn left, to return to Hagg Lane and the boardwalk or turn right and travel east for another 5 minutes along Inner Moor lane to the junction with Novey Lane.
Turn left and head north for a long walk to Haymoors wood and Woodhall or south back to the A63 and back into the village. The total walk is around 40 minutes. |
